The Special Education: Students with Disabilities (All Grades) and 7-12 Subject Area Extensions Master’s Program is designed for educators who have completed an undergraduate teacher education program in general education and want to become certified in special education.
This program prepares you to support diverse learners across all grade levels while allowing you to specialize in a content area for Grades 7-12, if so desired.
Who Should Apply?
- You hold a bachelor’s degree in general education (not in Special Education) from an accredited institution.
- You have a 3.0+ GPA and completed a NYS-registered teacher preparation program.
- You have either NYS initial or professional certification, National Board certification, or one year of teaching experience under a valid teaching license.
- You’ve completed foundational coursework in Students with Disabilities, Classroom Management, and Literacy Instruction—or are willing to complete these requirements as part of the program.
- You’re passionate about inclusive education and supporting students with diverse learning needs.
