Dr. Horace Mann will be forever remembered on campus and beyond for his pioneering work in the field of exceptional education and his unparalleled generosity to Buffalo State. Under his leadership as director of the Exceptional Children Education Division, the undergraduate and graduate programs in exceptional education rose to prominence and became among the largest in the United States. Before retiring in 1992, he had helped to educate more than 7,000 exceptional education teachers.
Before his passing in 2010, Dr. Mann created scholarships to ensure that students in the Exceptional Education Department would directly benefit from his generosity and further his life’s work of educating students with disabilities. This year, the Exceptional Education Department has the honor of offering scholarships to undergraduate (2 total) and graduate (4 total from two different applications) students in the Exceptional Education Department at SUNY Buffalo State.
